Did you know that you can make a latte without using milk? Yup! All you need is water… and cashew nuts. And ideally a high-speed blender. If you don’t have one, keep on reading, you can still make the recipe :)
The result is incredibly creamy and is convenient when you just drank the last of your favourite milk. I found today’s recipe on Dr. Greger’s Instagram feed. For those who still don’t know him, he’s a renowned physician specialized in nutrition and he’s the brain behind the website Nutrition Facts, a bible in plant-based nutrition.
Apparently, research has demonstrated that ginger has powers that are similar to ibuprofene. Dr. Greger recommends it to relief migraines and menstrual cramps. It’s not a bad idea then to consume it regularly, whether fresh or powdered.
Still not convinced? This latte is simply scrumptious! I changed it up a bit, by doubling the spices and adding hemp seeds for a healthy dose of omega 3, proteins and diverse vitamins and minerals. I drank one everyday last week instead of coffee! I also sometimes add turmeric for a delicious golden milk.
The trick to have a raw latte, and not destroy certain nutrients by heating it, is to blend it for at least 2.5 minutes. I use the Omniblend, which is super powerful and more affordable than the famous Vitamix. I could no longer live without it!
Finally, if you don’t have a good blender, you can simply use cashew milk and heat it gently on the stove with the spices and maple syrup.

- 2 tablespoons raw cashew nuts
- 1 tablespoon hemp seeds
- 1-2 large Medjool date, pitted
- ¾ teaspoon Ceylon cinnamon
- ¾ teaspoon ground ginger
- 1½ cup (375ml) water
- Place all the ingredients in your high-power blender. Mix for 2.5-3 minutes (I use the 35sec. function once and the 60sec function twice). The mixture should be heated by the movement of the blades.
- Transfer to a mug and enjoy.
