Once upon a time in early 2014, my yoga instructor told me about The Green Panther, a small vegan restaurant that he loves and just so happens to be a 5-minute walk away from my job.
Wasting no time, I stopped by and tasted their famous falafels the following week (and the week after, and the week after). Wow.
First of all, the huge lineup quickly reassured me. Even though it was located near typical fast food joints like A&W and Thai Express, people were waiting in line all the way from the entrance.
I must admit, I was quite happy to see so many people forego those unhealthy choices in favour of a restaurant specialized in vegan, organic, local meals and that even does composting! They also sell some prepared meals, smoothies and granolas in nice big returnable Mason jars. I love it!
They also offer a discount if you bring your own containers for take-out.
Organic and vegan is nice and all, but… does it taste good? Do they serve anything other than sunflower seeds and herbal juices? Yes and yes!
Let’s do the childish thing and start with the desserts: there is a wide array to choose from, all more drool-inducing than the next. Date and cocoa energy balls, chocolate coffee brownies, vanilla-iced carrot cakes, and it just keeps going like that. Additionally, the menu includes no less than seven different sandwiches as well as soups, salads, daily specials, etc.
I tasted quite a few of the sandwiches, each one delicious, but I always come back to the FalaFusion. Those little crunchy falafels with onions, sumac and a special sauce that’s to die for… my taste buds fall in love all over again every time.

My mom was in Montreal one weekend and I invited her out to lunch. Okay, she paid. But I suggested the restaurant. Ever since then, she has to go at least once whenever she’s in town. I’m starting to wonder if I’m still the reason she visits…
Mommy-approved!
I wholeheartedly recommend trying The Green Panther closest to you. There are three more and more restaurants in Montreal, including one on Mackay, one on St-Viateur West and another on Mont-Royal East.
Why are you still reading this post? Go get some falafels already!
Hi!
I invite you to come try a whole new twist to falafels at Falafel Avenue! A newly opened vegan/vegetarian restaurant in downtown Montreal. Falafel avenue’s menu is fresh and varied at it provides you with 4, yes 4 different kind of falafels and 5 different kinds of tahini sauces!.. But the kicker.. It’s the bigFA.. A 9″ baked.. Yes BAKED falafel sandwich!
