It’s no secret that ice cream is an unhealthy treat, to our great collective dismay.
Do no fret comrades, the ever-versatile banana has come to turn our frowns upside down. These yellow bad boys really saved my summer. I raved about it relentlessly, so much so that after a while, I noticed Martin starting to tune out, or simply leave the room, when I drifted into one of my banana nice cream monologues.
I hope this recipe will change the way you enjoy frozen treats. If you’re the lucky owner of a high-speed blender, you’ll get the most incredibly creamy dessert.
For those of you who can only rely on a regular food processor or blender, don’t toss the towel in just yet. It’ll work just as well as long as you have this extra tool on hand: some added patience.
I use the Omniblend and I can easily reach the perfect texture in about 3 minutes. To get the best results and speed up the process, slice your bananas before freezing them. When ready to make your ice cream, start by pouring a little bit of plant-based milk, such as oat or almond, then add your slices and your spices (delightful rime not intended) and blend on low until you get a thick creamy mixture. If and when your device is struggling along the way, pour in some more milk.
Serve immediately (who could wait) or store in the freezer for an hour or two so it sets before enjoying.

How to make banana nice cream
Instructions
- Combine all the ingredients together and mix well until you have a smooth texture. Taste and adjust to your preferred consistency/sweetness.
- Eat right away or place in the freezer for a couple of hours.
Chocolate banana nice cream
Ingredients
- 3 organic bananas sliced and frozen
- A splash of plant-based milk
- 1 to 2 tablespoons raw cacao powder
- Pinch of Ceylon cinnamon
- Pinch of Cayenne pepper
Instructions
- Combine all the ingredients together and mix well until you have a smooth texture. Taste and adjust to your preferred consistency/sweetness.
- Eat right away or place in the freeze for a couple of hours.
Pumpkin banana nice cream
Ingredients
- 3 organic bananas sliced and frozen
- 1/4 cup pumpkin purée or pumpkin butter
- A splash of plant-based milk
- Pinch of cinnamon
Instructions
- Combine all the ingredients together and mix well until you have a smooth texture. Taste and adjust to your preferred consistency/sweetness.
- Eat right away or place in the freeze for a couple of hours.
